Trek Itinerary : Phulara Ridge Trek

Day 1 : Reach Sankri

Altitude: 6,397 Ft.

Time Taken: 8-10 hrs drive from Dehradun.

On your first day of the Phulara Ridge trek, you will head towards Sankri from Dehradun, a pretty small village in Uttarakhand with 250 around houses nearby. The village consists of small Dhabas and shops. The village is the base camp for many other treks, such as Kedarkantha, Har Ki Dun. The small village in the Lap of Himalayas is so stunning and offers the enchanting view of Swargarohini peak. As you drive to Sankri, you will cross Nainbagh, Naugaon, Purola, Jarmola, Mori Naitwari, and finally, Sankri. It is a total of 8 to 10 hrs drive towards Sankri from Dehradun. The village involves lots of adventure, along with that one can also experience the Zipline there known as Zip700. It will be a new experience in your adventure journal, so try the zip line too in Sankri base camp.

Day 2 : Sankri to Sikolta

Altitude: 6,397 Ft. to 9,300 Ft.

Time Taken: 5 hours

Trek Gradient: Moderate. Ascending trail throughout.

Water sources: A small stream near the broken bridge, around 3.5-4 hrs into the trek.

On your 2nd day of Phulara Ridge trek, you will head towards Sikolta from Sankri base camp, you will cross the lovely pine forest, and around 1.5 hrs in ascent, you will reach a small bridge to cross. While ascents, keep in mind to take careful steps, later there will come some broken dhabas that you will strike, and after 30 min in the trek, you will reach the first place that is “Jainot Thatch.” Later, more than 10 min into the trek, you will need to ascent towards Marikoda, wherein you will be able to behold the beauty of Dhunda and a glimpse of the Phulara Ridge. As you have spent so much time in the trek, you later reach “Sikolta,” a nice meadow patch. Have rest in the tent, with dinner, and prepare yourself for the next trek tomorrow.

Day 3 : Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi via Karsu Thatch

Altitude: 9,300 Ft. To 11,155 Ft.

Time taken: 4 hrs

Trek Gradient: Easy-Moderate. Ascending trail throughout.

Water sources: A stream near the bridge, around an hour into the trek.

On your 3rd day of the Phulara Ridge trek, you will head towards Bhoj Gadi from Sikolta, an ascent of 30 min through the forest. The forest will be dark and dense, and you witness some trees fallen on the trail, be careful during the walk and listen to your trek leader. Later you witness the bridge along the route; there will be a small descending bridge and then a sharp ascent.

A beautiful stream will be seen flowing near the bridge, where you can fill your water bottles. As you continue to ascent for around 15 min, you will reach Karasu Thatch. The place is full of greens and yellow looking mesmerizing flowers.

You will be able to witness the Kedarkantha peak and change in the surroundings, such as a decline in the tree lines, and from here, you will have a gradual ascent. As you walk further, you will have a 30 min gradual ascent. You will see Rhododendron and Bhoj trees on the trail. Stepping off a few more mins will open up the lush green meadows.

You will be able to see Dhunda Top, the highest point, and another 10 to 15 min trek will lead you towards your campsite, Bhoj Gadi. You can have rest and acclimatize yourself, and the most beautiful thing about the camp is you can behold the beauty of Kedarkantha peak, Swargarohini, and a few more.

Day 4 : Bhoj Gadi to Pushtara via Phulara ridge

Altitude: 11,115 Ft. to 9,500 Ft. via 12,127 Ft.

Time taken: 6 hrs

Trek Gradient: Ascend trail up to the ridge. A flat path at the ridge followed by the descent to the Pushtara.

Water sources: Carry at least two litres of water from Bhoj Gadi

Day 5 : Pushtara to Taluka. Drive to Sankri

Altitude: 9,500 Ft. to 7,953 Ft.

Time taken: 5 hrs trek + 1 hrs drive to Sankri

Trek Gradient: Easy-moderate. Descending trail to Taluka.

Water sources: There is a stream just before you enter the forest, around 1.5 hrs into the trek.

Day 5 will starts with half an hour walk till Taluka, where you’ll get demolished huts of Gujjars on the way back to Sankri via Taluka.

Meadows resemble a fluffy sofa to sit on for way too long until someone pokes you to get in.

1 hrs journey will escape you from the grassland to mid of pine and oak forest, which is pretty enough to entertain your soul for still connecting with nature. Broken trees can be hurdles, be careful while crossing stems of the broken tree.

2 hrs later, when fumes of fire get into the nose and click the sign to be present, someone around you is about to reach Sankri, 40 more minutes’ walk, and you’ll be in the final destination at the lodge. Risk: Altitude

On high altitude trek, there is a risk of Acute mountain sicknesses like Nausea, Headache and general discomfort. It will not affect everyone but sometimes the new trekker will face HAPE and HACE, which is a part of AMS.

Response: If you feel any of symptoms of AMS or any other discomfort, Inform your trek leader As soon as possible. All the trek leader is trained, they will give you proper measure to ensure your safety on the trek. All the campsite has Oxygen mask, Stretcher and fully equip the first Kid to address the situation like this.

Risk: Weather

Weather is unpredictable in mountains, no one can predict about the weather situation you will face while trekking. So, we always begin trek in favourable trekking conditions.

Response: All the trek leaders are mountaineers, they are the best person to decide if it’s safe to trek further or not. The decision of trek leader will final in bad weather condition.

Risk: Injuries

Treks are not straight as roads do. Your route will be zigzag or up or down. Small Injuries like bruises or leg Sprain are common but serious injuries like major cuts or fracture is rare.

Response: We only work with certified Wilderness as trek leaders. They are trained to handle emergencies and can treat small injuries easily. If any trek member faces serious injuries then they will be taken to the nearest hospital available at that time.

Risk: Lack of Communication Device

We sometimes face network problems in Big cities, Facing the same issue on treks is undustable Still, we do our best to connect you with your loved ones.

Response: We use walkie-talkies and sometimes runner to communicate between the campsite and Basecamp. You guardian can send a message on base camp and the base manager will convey your message towards you.

Phulara Ridge Trek Route

The trek to the Phulara Ridge begins at Sankri where you can reach via Dehradun which is the main station. You’ll shared cabs from Dehradun to Sankri with fellow trekkers. You need to bear the cost of this taxi, which will be 5,500/- INR for 4-5 setter.

The Dehradun station is one of the principle stations in the area and it is an old station. It has great availability to numerous spots and these incorporate Lucknow, Delhi, and Howrah. Via Flight

You can get a flight between new Delhi to Jolly Grant.

Distance between the Jolly Grant to Dehradun is 28 Km.

It will take half hour drive to reach Dehradun.

Would recommend you to take just government transports from Kashmiri gate Delhi. Private transports handle from outside ISBT and they are not confiding in value.

Shared Taxis or comparable vehicles will get you from Dehradun Railway Station at 6:00am.

Pre-Trek Preparations

Phulara Ridge is moderate type trek which is suitable for beginners if they have at least 2 months physical and mental conditioning. However, even being a moderate type trek, proper study of the trek must be made.

Trekking at Phulara Ridge, for its ever-lasting memories and experience, demands just a few things which involve physical endurance with physiological wellness. Not just the one who’s physically fit would do the magic in trekking but one also needs to be mentally fit as well in order to cope up with the adversities one might have to face during the treks such natural calamities, rains or other unforeseen conditions.

To keep up with such requirements of trekking here are a few things you can do to get yourself physically fit.

Getting to the Phulara Ridge trek without proper preparation is something you should never do.

Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise is one of the most sought-after methods which provides not just the physical endurance but also the strength to withstand any unavoidable circumstances sternly. Trekking at Phulara Ridge demands the high endurance which you can develop in a month or two where you need to begin with the jogging or running (only if you could do). This practice needs to be combined with the speed and distance targets. You need to keep on increasing both with the time.

Begin with the small chunks of the targets and gradually increase for the bigger one. For instance,

Begin with a target of completing a distance of 5km in 45 minutes and then gradually increase it to 7 km in the same time and remain stick to this practice until you are able to cover 10 km in 80-90 minutes without fail, at a stretch.

Fitness routine overview

  • Try to cover 5 KM in 45 minutes, When you start preparing.
  • Slowly increase your distance to 7 KM at the same time (45 Minutes). After some time you will get the stamina to run longer. Continue this until you can reach 10 KM in 80 -90 Minute, Then stick to Routine till Trek date.
  • If you are older than 45 years and prefer to walk then Jogging. Then Work on completing 10 KM in 90 Minutes. If Jogging in fine for you then try to cover 5 KM in 40 Minutes, gradually increase you Jogging distance in the same duration.
  • Cycling is fine too for increasing stamina. If you are the one who prefers cycling over Jogging then your target should be to cover 22 KM in 60 minutes.

All the above said exercises will help you stay in good condition to enjoy the trek.

What you need to know about the trek expense

The trek expense of Rs. 6023.00 + 5% GST takes care of all expenses of the trek from Sankri to Sankri.

Here is what the trek fee includes:

  • Accommodation – Stay is included from Day 1 to the last day of the trek. You will be staying in the guest houses of the respective locations & camping on remaining days of the trek.
  • Meals – All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast till last day of the trek are included. We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek.
  • Camping Charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.
  • Trekking Equipment – You will stay in high quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Our high-altitude sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC. We provide ice axes, roped, micro spikes, gaiters etc. as required.
  • Safety Equipment – First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers etc. will be available at all campsites to deal with emergencies.
  • Services of an expert Trek Leader – All our trek leaders are qualified in basic / advanced mountaineering courses.
  • Services of an expert Trek Team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of well-trained guides, cooks, helpers and porters.

Here is what the trek fee excludes:

  • Transport to and from the base camp – Trekveda will offer the taxi services from and to the base camp.
  • Food during transit to and from the base camp – The trek fee does not include meals purchased during the journey to and from the basecamp.
  • Backpack offloading charges - If you wish to offload your backpack, there will be an additional charge of Rs. 1600 + 5% GST. The backpack cannot weigh more than 9 kgs. Suitcases/strollers/duffel bags will not be allowed. Please note that charges will vary for last minute offloading in case you decide to offload your bag after reaching the basecamp (Rs. 1800 + 5% GST). Online offloading in advance is possible up to two days prior to the trek start date.
  • Stay at hill station on the last day.
  • Personal expenses of any kind.
  • Anything apart from inclusions.
  • Buffer day – It is mandatory to have this extra day as any bad weather or rain will delay your pass crossing. If buffer day is utilized, you will need to pay Rs. 1,500 + 5% GST. This amount is to be handed over to your trek leader.

Cancellation Policy

Cancelling a trek is like a real pain when you have been dreaming of it since a long time. But, to resolve it and to lesser your disappointment. We have a user-friendly cancellation policy for you.

Covid Relief Cancellation Policy

This Policy is effective from 1st June 2020 to 31st Dec 2020 only as per your booking date.

  • If you are cancelling your trek prior 7 days from your trek date, then we provide you with the FULL REFUND.
  • If you are cancelling your trek within 7 days from your trek date, then there will be NO REFUND.
  • If you want to change the date of your trek, then it should only be done before 14 days from your trek date. No changes will be made within the 14 days from your trek date.
Trekveda Cancellation Policy

This Policy is effective from 1st Jan 2021.

  • If you are cancelling your trek prior 30 to 15 days from your trek date, then a 100% REFUND will be provided.
  • If you are cancelling your trek prior 14 to 7 days from your trek date, then 70% REFUND will be provided.
  • If you are cancelling your trek within 7 days from your trek date, NO REFUND will be done.
Trek Cancelling Exceptions

We never cancel any treks at Trekveda but In case we cancel your trek because of any natural calamities, political unrest, and sudden global health concern, riots, government instructions etc. So, Trekveda will issue you a voucher to redeem your trek in 1 year with any trek you want.

Trekveda Refund Policy

In case of refund, there will be a deduction of 4% bank charges and 5% GST from the total fee you have paid. Also, if you have opted for trek insurance, the amount will not be refunded. In the process of refunding the amount, the full amount will not be refunded in the first phase. It will take 15 working days to repay the half and another 15 working days for another half of the amount calculated according to the company's cancellation policy.

Former Cancellation Policy

Note- This Policy is only applicable for those who have booked their trek prior 1st June 2020 with us.

  • Prior cancellation 40 days from the start of the trek is 90% refundable.
  • Cancellation between 40 to 20 days from the beginning of the trek is 45% refundable.
  • Cancellation between 20 to 10 days from the start of the trek is 10% refundable.
  • Cancellation within 10 days from the start of the trek is non-refundable.

How to cancel your trek?

Other Trek Policies
  1. The trek fee includes all costs of the trek from the start at the base camp to the end.
  2. Emergency during trek: In case of medical emergency, the trekker will be taken care at the primary stage since we don’t accompany the doctors during the trek, however our trek leaders are trained for the first-aid treatment. Post the first-aid Trekveda will take the liability to send down the trekker to the nearest basecamp or road head.
  3. Fitness: Before you head to plan a Chadar trek, your body fitness needs to be maintained for the high-altitude Himalayan treks since level of oxygen is considerably low at high ranges, thus proper cardiovascular training is a vital component of pre-trek preparation.
  4. Non-liability: Trekveda is not responsible for any loss/damage of your gears/equipment or other belongings on the trek.
  5. Payment: Payment for the trek can be done online through credit/debit card or net banking. Cheque/draft or cash is not accepted.
  6. Drinking and Smoking during the trek is strictly prohibited. If found flouting the rules, your participation on the trek will be cancelled with immediate effect.

The temperature of Phulara Ridge trek in winter remains – 2°C to – 5° C.

So it’s usually cold there throughout the year. Hence in order to get yourself not bothered with the temperature all you need is to keep yourself tuned up with the changing temperate. However our trek leaders are the trained professionals who would let you know about the precautions, but packing woolen cloth accordingly is your responsibility.

There would be a separate tent for the toilet at each campsite. However, there would be no facility to bath during the treks and you need to change the clothes at definite intervals in order to keep up with the hygiene. Maintaining hygiene is extremely necessary during the trek as this may lead to the several fatal problems such as AMS, HAPE and HACE.
