Day 03: Departure from Rishikesh.
Rishikesh is a city in northern India where people from across the world come to find peace and learn yoga. Rishikesh, on the banks of the Ganges River, is a popular destination for many pilgrims who come from around the world to bathe in its holy water. The area is buzzing with tourists, who come here to learn about the ancient traditions of wellness. There are many ashrams in Rishikesh, some of which are internationally recognized centers of philosophical studies and yoga.Â
Rishikesh also has a number of quaint cafes, which offer local and international cuisines and are mostly packed with tourists. In recent years, however, Rishikesh has become very popular for its vibrant Holi celebrations. Rishikesh, the holy city of Hinduism at the base of the Himalayas, provides an opportunity for spiritual growth. This lively city is sacred to Hindus and is considered one of the holiest places on Earth. The river Ganges flows through this city, providing nourishment and life to many creatures on Earth. Local Hindus go to Rishikesh to take part in yoga and meditation retreats and to experience life on a rafting trip. Rafting and camping in Rishikesh are one of the best experiences one can have.
From Ram Jhula, you can do one of two things. You can take a boat on sharing basis or walk on the bridge to cross the river. Both sides of the bridge are always crowded with shops selling cloths, holy beads, shawls, precious and semi-precious stones, replicas of deities (including Lord Ganesha), astrological gems, and Ayurvedic medicines. The other side of the bridge is known as the Swarg Ashram area. So many big ashrams are here such as Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan. When you cross over from Ram Jhula to reach the Swarg Ashram area, you will be greeted by engraved deities and music shops that play divine sacred ragas.
